About

Based in Berkshire just outside of Reading (UK) I live with my husband and two young children. My inspiration to paint comes from my travels and everyday surroundings. I enjoy painting urban landscapes (buildings and street scenes), still life pieces and portraits. Colour is very important in my art pieces and my still life project on 'cups, jugs and coffee,' really allows me to explore and experiment with colour. I really enjoy portraiture for its challenge and seeing portraits come to life on the canvas. What I love about art is the freedom to be creative.

I have always enjoyed art.  I was introduced to oil painting and studied it for 2 years when I was 16 during my A-Level studies at a comprehensive school in Wargrave, Berkshire.  After school I went on a different path and studied Geography and worked in Urban Planning. I missed art so much, I decided to start painting again in 2017 (almost 20 years after leaving school).

I paint with oils and mainly on canvas or canvas boards. All the paintings you see on my website are original paintings. Not all of my paintings are on my website; I document a lot of my work however on Instagram (@claireburrissartist). Please do follow me if you are interested in my work and want to keep up to date with what I’m doing.

I think of ideas all the time. I think about compositions and colour combinations. I might be thinking about it whilst I’m going out for a walk or cooking dinner. Sometimes I quickly sketch out ideas, it helps if I don’t have time to paint right there in the moment or if I am struggling to get a vision of an idea I have. Depending on what I might want to capture, I take photographs as well.  The amount of time I spend on a painting really depends on what I want to achieve. A painting could take a day or weeks. When I paint I like to play music, it fills me with inspiration.

Art for me is not just about painting, it’s the joy of seeing it around you and creating interesting spaces. The pleasure I get from people enjoying my art, is very much an important part of being an artist too.
